Is settling a car accident injury case different if children are involved?

Settling a car accident injury case in Kentucky is different when children are involved because the Court needs to approve of settlement. If the settlement is small there is a chance the Court does not need to be involved. When settlements are over $10,000.00 the Court must ensure the settlement is fair, equitable, and in the best interest of the child. The Court will then direct the money be placed in a blocked account. The child will get access to the account when they turn 18 or the court can order some of the money released to help with expenses like buying a car or school supplies.
