Top 40 Kentucky Dangerous Intersections

From 2009 to 2011 Preston Highway and Crittenden Drive were the number one ranked most dangerous intersection in Louisville, according to KIPDA. This intersection was replaced by 7th Street at Manslick and Berry Boulevard from 2012 to 2015 as the most dangerous. Now as reported by WHAS 11, Louisville, Kentucky’s Second Street and Broadway intersection holds the dubious honor of being the most hazardous crossing in the state. From July 2018 to July 2019, a total of 35 crashes occurred at this spot alone. Notably, over half of all fatal and injurious accidents take place in or around intersections. Frequently, these accidents can be attributed to delayed reactions, vehicular speeds that are unsuitable for the prevailing conditions, and incorrect assumptions about other road users’ intentions. Interestingly, a majority of collisions in Louisville transpire at intersections.

According to the latest available data on accidents in Kentucky (2018), intersections were the sites of 26.9% of all crashes, and 30.6% of non-lethal injuries from accidents took place at these junctions. Common locales for vehicular accidents include rural regions, interstates, intersections, and parking lots.

Distracted driving has also been identified as a significant cause of car accidents near intersections. Unfortunately, distracting activities like checking messages, adjusting clothing or makeup, and even engaging with or looking at passengers in the vehicle often see a significant increase by motorists waiting in or passing through intersections. Distractions can range from texting or taking a call on a cell phone while driving to seemingly harmless activities such as changing the radio station. All of these activities increase the risk of rash at these already dangerous intersections.
