What Is Required To Be A Personal Injury Attorney In Kentucky?

Louisville Injury LawyerWhat Is Required To Be A Personal Injury Attorney In Kentucky?

A law license is required to be a personal injury attorney in Kentucky.  There is no set requirement that a lawyer study a particular set of laws to become a personal injury lawyer.  This means that any attorney can claim to be a personal injury lawyer.  It does not mean the personal injury lawyer is any good.

Here are some things to consider if you are going to hire a personal injury:

Trial Work and Lawsuits Are Important

Insurance companies are billion dollar, sophisticated institutions.  As part of that intelligence the carriers know who will file a lawsuit and try a case in front of a jury.  Billboard lawyers do not usually try cases.  They hire out the work to trial lawyers.  Either that or they take quick and cheap money to resolve a case and pay overhead.  That isn’t good for a client.  Think of the loss of bargaining power if the insurance company knows the lawyer won’t take them to court.  All of this is to say that you need a lawyer that spends time in litigation.

Office Staff

I do not set up claims at my office.  It is not because I’m too important to do it.  It is about efficiency.  The same way a doctor has nurses I have paralegals.  Their job is to handle my paperwork and office so I can lawyer.  If I did not have my staff clients claims would not get set up fast and getting a rental vehicle would become burdensome.  Most of my staff has been with me seven years plus.  They work hard and make the firm run.

There are plenty of solo lawyers that are difficult to get in contact with.  They don’t have staff and don’t return phone calls.  I know this because I get calls at least once a week with some injured party that is upset with their lawyer.  On the other side of the spectrum are firms where you never get to actually speak to a lawyer.  Not cool if you ask me.

Do You Like The Lawyer

You should be a pretty good judge of characters and able to weed out the “bad” lawyers. There are plenty of bad lawyers just like there are bad doctors, engineers, nurses, government employees, and other professionals.  My take is you want a personal injury lawyer that is confident and not a jerk.  Remember this will be the person representing YOU.
