You can sue someone for hitting your dog or cat with the car. The problem here is the law in Kentucky only entitles you to the value of the animal on the open market. I have a dog that is probably worth $50.00 on the open market but has tremendous value to me because he is my dog. In my opinion, the law needs to change and compensate people for emotional damages, but the courts have interpreted this area of the law to only provide for replacement cost.
