Can I sue someone for hitting my car?
The first thing to do is to figure out who hit the car. If you are able to determine who hit your car you should call the police and file a report. This will make your life easier with the other person’s insurance company. If you cannot figure out who hit your car you should call your insurance carrier and set up a claim with them. You will need to have collision/comprehensive insurance for your carrier to cover it. Assuming you will be covered you should take the vehicle to a body shop of your choosing. Do not go to the body shop that the insurance company recommends. If the car is not drivable then the insurance company will pay you the market value of the vehicle at the time of the loss. KBB, Edmunds, CarGurus, and other websites will tell you what your car is worth.
