What Good Bouncers Do
I am pretty skeptical when someone calls me about a bar bouncer attack. Out of college I worked as a bar back for seven months trying to scrape up enough money to travel Central America. We had some great bouncers that weren’t just a bunch of meatheads hired off the street. These guys had been with the bar for years, didn’t let underage drinkers in, and ran a tight shop. Everything about them from the time they showed up to the time they left was professional. And this is how bouncers are meant to be.
What Bad Bouncers Do
Unfortunately, there are some bad bouncers who think they can substitute their judgement for the law. This week I’m filing a personal injury lawsuit against four bouncers at PBR Bar in Downtown Louisville. I will also sue their employer for vicarious liability (meaning an employer is responsible for the acts of an employee). My client, who weighs 150 pounds, was on the dance floor, not harassing anyone, when four bouncers picked him up from behind and began to take him out. My client raised his hands in the air because he didn’t know what they were doing. On the way out they slammed his head into the ground, knocked him out, and smashed a bunch of teeth out.
Witnesses to Incident
My client had people with him that asked the bouncers why they did this. I interviewed all of them and basically cross examined each witness. The recollections are too consistent to be inaccurate. I find most interesting the bouncers had no explanation after the fact. They just said “I don’t need to explain myself to you.”
Consequences of Bad Bouncers
It was almost like the bouncers picked up the wrong guy. Why it took four bouncers is another question. If you want to remove someone from a bar you don’t need to smash their face. In any case, if you own a bar please take adequate steps to train your bouncers to be like the ones in the first paragraph. If you don’t there is a personal injury lawyer somewhere that is going to sue you.
