What to do if you get hit by a car?
- The first thing to do after being hit by a car is to figure out if you are injured.
- If you are hurt call 911 and get the ambulance.
- You will also want a police report filed by the Louisville Metro Police Department (or other department depending on where you are).
- Do not leave the scene of a car or pedestrian crash without having the police file a report.
- Do not trust that the other person is giving you valid insurance information.
- Once the police show up be as polite and respectful as you can and relay to the officer what happened.
- I would also advise taking as many pictures as possible if you are able to do so.
- Call a lawyer right away and do not speak to an insurance company or anyone else about your case.
- Follow up with whatever medical treatment you need. It is very common to have adrenaline running through you after a crash and then to wake up the next morning feeling like you got hit by a sack of bricks.
- Do not wait too long to get follow up treatment or the insurance company for the at-fault vehicle will attempt to de-value your injuries and claim.
